I parked my ‘93 Ford in the driveway a couple of months ago and haven’t started it since. Now there is a large circle of oil under the auto transmission area. I am not game to start it now. What can I do?
You didn’t say what kind of Ford you own; however any oil stains under the Transmission area obviously indicates a leak of some description. If the stain is red in colour it is definitely coming from the auto transmission. There are many places a leak can occur but if it has occurred whilst the car has been parked for a long period it is most likely the pan gasket or rear extension housing seal. In the engine bay on the drivers side at the rear you should locate the trans dip stick (refer to manual if you can’t find it), check the stick oil level mark. If it shows no oil at all you will need to add some oil, check your manual for oil type and add about a litre of oil. Start the engine, move gear selector through all gears and back to Park, with engine still running check the level again. Add more oil as required. Have the car checked out by a mechanic as soon as convenient.
