Hi dude, I’ve got a EB XR6 5 speed manual and it makes a whiring noise under the floor when idling. If I push the clutch down it goes away. Do I need to replace the clutch??
Probably not. It’s more likely to be a noisy input bearing in the gearbox. The clutch thrust bearing tends to be noisey the opposite way around when the clutch is depressed. The reason the noise dissappears when you depress the clutch is that the clutch plate releases and stops turning the input shaft of the gearbox. This bearing can be changed but requires removal of the gearbox and dismantling of the the front input shaft. Overall probably a bigger job than replacing the clutch, sorry.
