The sell out AAAA Trade Show 2007 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre is presenting 400 Australian and international exhibitors to industry visitors from across the nation. In halls next door to the Trade Show, the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association is also hosting the sell out Collision Repair Expo, with 50 specialist exhibitors focusing on that sector.
These events combine as the largest automotive afterrnarket exhibition held in Australia. ‘’We are overwhelmed at the industry’s response, both from within Australia and from overseas,” said AAAA Executive Director Stuart Charity. “Unfortunately, we could not accommodate all of the exhibitors that wanted to participate.
“These combined events are providing Australia’s automotive aftermarket industry with an impressive multinational showcase of products, services and technologies. This is now a major business to business event, where manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers can network and negotiate deals” he said.
“With an estimated $8 billion in annual retail sales, the Australian automotive afterrnarket makes a significant contribution to the economy. And as sales of new passenger and commercial vehicles continue to grow towards the million sales predicted for 2007, the total number of vehicles on the road is increasing at almost 3% a year.”
“This event reflects the size and importance of the industry. Some commentators overtook the fact that this industry helps to keep thousands of useful family and commercial vehicles safely on the roads, in some cases long after the original manufacturer has stopped supplying vital parts. The aftermarket has also pioneered technologies, such as LPG conversion and in vehicle communication and entertainment systems, which deliver safety and environmental benefits, and increased comfort to the community,” he said.
Visitor friendly shows
“This year, we are making our shows as accessible as possible to all in the industry, including businesses in regional centres. With the cooperation of Bursons and Repco outlets in major Victorian country towns, we are operating a free bus service on Saturday 23 June to pick up and drop off hundreds of business operators and apprentices to enable them to see the latest products and services available.”
“To help visitors make the most of their stay at the shows, we have scheduled free tours of selected exhibits in a range of industry sectors. These tours operate on all three show days and themes for the tours include auto electrical, tools and equipment, brakes, tyres and suspension, exhaust and performance, and accessories.”
“Our popular show car displays are located throughout the exhibition and these magnificent classic, historic and competition cars will be complemented by special exhibitor vehicle displays. Visitors also have the opportunity to win exciting prizes – a trip for two to the Lexmark Indy 300 on the Gold Coast, a 46” Sherwood LCD TV, a hot laps ride in a Holden Racing Team V8 Supercar, and a set of cross drilled slotted rotors from Disk Brakes Australia. Prizes will be drawn at random from visitors’ entry pass numbers,” said Stuart Charity.
Other features of the event include regular tours to the Kangan Batman TAPE Automotive Centre of Excellence at Docklands, an International Reception, the AAAA Best New Product Awards Breakfast (7.45am 21 June), and the AAAA Awards to Industry Banquet (7.00pm 21 June).
“The AAAA recognises the great support provided by the sponsors of the AAAA Trade Show and Collision Repair Expo. We also thank the members of the two industry committees that contributed time, energy and creative ideas to these events. Without them these major events are not possible,” said Stuart Charity.
The future for AAAA expos
Stuart Charity said that research conducted at the AAAA Trade Show 2005 revealed that the industry wanted a major industry exhibition every two years. That research also found that the collision repair sector wanted a separate industry exhibition, complete with seminar programs.
“The AAAA has delivered on those requests with a larger AAAA Trade Show and the inaugural Collision Repair Expo. To build on this success in the future, the AAAA will expand its trade show program. The AAAA Trade Show will be re-branded for 2009 as the ‘Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo’. This will distinguish it from other events, and allow the show to grow in some exciting new areas.
“The AAAA will also expand the Collision Repair Expo in 2009. Combining these events in Sydney in 2009 will create a powerful ‘one stop shop’ business networking opportunity for our industry,” he said.
