TeamVodafone star Jamie Whincup scored his first 2007 round podium today at Pukekohe Raceway in New Zealand, finishing third overall for round three of the V8 Supercar Championship series.

Sticking firmly at the top of the field all weekend in the #88 TeamVodafone BF Falcon, the young gun qualified fifth, was fourth in race one, scored a strong second in race two and crossed the line fifth in race three (which was cut six laps short due to a live television broadcast issue).
Ford’s all-in assault throughout the round proved that the blue side has exceptional pace and many strong contenders in its midst with the likes of James Courtney, Craig Lowndes, Russell Ingall and Mark Winterbottom finishing in the top ten.
“ We did our job this weekend, we were the best of the Fords “
“Mechanically and power wise we were slightly off the Toll HSV cars but we have a plan to catch that deficit in the next four rounds,” said Jamie Whincup.
“TeamVodafone has the people and the money to catch them and that’s what we’re going to do.”
“We struggled a bit in race three, we used up all our cookies in race two which was actually our plan – we used up our tyres in order to achieve a good result and a solid grid position for race three.”
“I’m certainly happy with third, and I’m looking forward to getting even further up the front in the coming rounds.”

Whincup now sits fourth in the series standings and TeamVodafone is third in the teams Championship.
Ford Performance Racing (FPR) driver Winterbottom was also a stand-out Ford performer, claiming pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session, and finishing second in race one.
A speedy pit stop in race two saw him exit pit lane in front of race leader Garth Tander and plant himself firmly in first position – certain victory looked likely until a tyre blow-out forced him to the back of the field.
Winterbottom pushed forth and gained ground to finish tenth for the weekend, and has established himself as a consistent performer in the #5 Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon.
Team Kiwi Racing favourite Paul Radisich gained immense ground in the #21 Falcon V8 Supercar throughout the round, finishing just outside the top ten in 11th position in front of a supportive and passionate home crowd.
The V8 event was the last at Pukekohe raceway before a shift to a street race in Hamilton for 2008.
