Wall to Wall Fords During Race 2 at GP

Staff, Monday March 5, 2001.

Ford driver Paul Radisich (Shell Helix Racing)has led a fleet of Ford Falcons
home in the second race of the Hot Wheels V8 Supercar Showdown at the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne’s Albert Park.

Radisich’s first place rounded-out a dominant display for Ford with eight
cars in the top ten, including the top four places.

In a dramatic 12-lap race, Radisich grabbed the lead from team-mate Steven
Johnson on the first corner. Race one winner Mark Skaife, was involved
in a collision with a number of drivers including his team-mate Jason Bright
on the same bend. The result promoted a number of leading Ford squads to
the front of the field.

Johnson was involved in another incident later in the lap with fellow Ford
driver Marcos Ambrose, that eliminated both drivers from the top placings.

During a dynamic final lap, Craig Lowndes (Gibson Motorsport) was able
to jump from sixth to third place behind Radisich and Steven Richards (Ford
Tickford Racing).

“Steven Johnson and I got a great start, and once I got around him at the
first bend, I was able to hold a commanding lead all the way to the end,”
said Paul Radisich.

“Despite a disappointing qualifying, we have been able to jump from 11th
to fourth in the first race and now a win.”

“It’s a great start to the year and we’re confident of further improvement
as we go along.”

Director of Shell Helix Racing, Dick Johnson, was delighted to give Ford
a great start to 2001.

“The enthusiasm being shown by the Ford Motor Company has given us a great deal of confidence going into this year,” said Johnson.

“This is not a one-off result – so V8 Supercar fans can expect many more
victories for Ford in 2001. From our team’s point of view, we hope it’s
Shell Helix Racing leading that charge.”

Lowndes, Paul Weel (K & J Thermal Products), David Besnard (Caltex Havoline Racing), and Bradley Jones (Ozemail Internet Racing) all started outside the top-ten. In an outstanding performance, all drivers climbed within
the top-ten at the finish.

The results of race two of the Hot Wheels V8 Supercar Showdown were:
