Tough Day in the Top End for Ford

Pirtek Racing?s Marcos Ambrose has finished fifth overall, following a tough day for him as well as the other leading Ford Racing teams during round four of the V8 Supercar Series at Darwin?s Hidden Valley.

Mark Skaife continued his hot start to the year winning his fourth straight round ahead of teammate Jason Bright, followed by Greg Murphy and Todd Kelly.

The Ford Falcon AUXR8 star was well placed following yesterday?s opening race, however an untidy tyre pit stop ended any hopes in today?s first 35-lap race.

Ambrose charged back through the field to take ninth place in the day?s first race, with another solid run earning him fifth place in the final 35-lap encounter.

?We had a great chance today, but losing around ten seconds in the pits ended our hopes in the day?s opening race,? said Ambrose.

?It?s disappointing as our guys are usually amongst the best, but this is a team sport and that?s how you have to look at it.

?The opposition were clearly on their game this weekend, whereas we didn?t quite have the pace.

?We?ll now set our sights on the next round in Canberra in three weeks time. That event is a critical round with bonus points on offer ? nothing short of victory will be our goal at that event?.

Ambrose?s teammate David Besnard (Caltex Havoline Racing) was Ford?s next best placed driver in seventh overall, with Brad Jones (OzEmail Internet Race Team) ninth and Glenn Seton (Ford Credit Racing) scoring a solid tenth place overall.

The opening race of the day had to be re-started following a six-car accident on just the third turn. It began a string of dramas for a number of the leading Ford teams, including Craig Lowndes, who had an engine failure following the re-start of that race and another motor let go in the final event.

Ford next goes racing on the streets of Canberra between June 7 ? 9. One of the championship?s showcase events, the Canberra 400 features three races, including a reverse-grid race as well a 200-kilometre finale for triple-points on the Sunday afternoon.
