The Creek a Happy Hunting Ground for FTR

Ford Tickford Racing (FTR) go to one of the team’s most successful circuits, Sydney’s Eastern Creek on April 28 - 29, with an eye on victory and a move up the Shell Championship leader board.

Eastern Creek has been a happy hunting ground for Glenn Seton, winner in both 1993 and ’97, the same years he went on to take the championship.

The FTR team is well placed in the 2001 title chase with Steven Richards in sixth and Seton seventh in the points standings.

“The car, Eastern Creek and I all seem to work well together - two wins as well as third place in 2000 are records most teams would be envious of,” said Seton.

“Our guys have got our cars right up to speed, and that will be important as passing is not all that easy at the Creek.

“With points on offer in the top-10 shootout as well as the two 100km races, nothing short of victory will be the goal at the Creek.

Seton was taken out by Jason Bright in the first 250km race at the recent Adelaide 500, but recovered to claim fourth position despite starting from 26th position on the grid.

Teammate Steven Richards passed twelve cars on the track to claim seventh in the second Adelaide race.

“Sunday’s car was the best V8 I had ever driven, and if we didn’t have to pass so many cars on the track we would have been up with Glenn,” said Richards.

“It has given me a lot more confidence in the car, I can now make much better use of it both in qualifying and the races themselves.

“Like any V8 race, one of the keys will be to stay out of trouble, make the most of any opportunities and have good pit stops.

“We have a compulsory pit stop for tyres in each race, where places can be easily gained or lost on the track.

2001 Shell Championship top-10 standings after two Rounds:

1. Jason Bright - : 703 Championship pts
2. Mark Skaife - : 628 Championship pts
3. Russell Ingall - : 620 Championship pts
