The 30-strong convoy of Falcon XA, XB and XC hardtops ? including several amazing Mad Max Interceptor versions ? have quickly cultivated a cult following from the thousands of Ford fans who gathered in Dearborn for the 100th birthday gala.
The classic coupes were escorted into Dearborn by a pair of latest generation BA Falcon XR6s.
Melbourne-based Falcon coupe enthusiast Howard Nessen was a hard worker behind the scenes in the lead-up to the celebration.
Himself a proud owner of a 1974 XB Falcon coupe, Nessen was part of the crew who drove the cars from Utah, Memphis and Pennsylvania, before meeting in Toledo, Ohio to make the final leg of the drive into Michigan as a group.
"It's hard to describe how surreal an experience it is for me to be at the home of the Ford Motor Company," Nessen said.
"To look up at the head office is like being an Aussie Rules football fanatic arriving at the MCG for the first time.
"For me this is petrolhead heaven, seeing all the cars I've heard and read about but never seen: cars like Ford Thunderbolts, Torino Cobras, Cyclones."
Nessen said the American Falcon coupe fans enjoyed a unique experience when former Ford racer and Bathurst winner John Goss ? a man who had his own limited edition Falcon coupe named after him ? pulled up in the carpark to inspect the cars.
"John had just got into town from the UK and saw a John Goss Special coupe. He just had to come over for a look.
"He was impressed the owner was keen enough to undertake the major restoration work the car needs, but even more impressed when a show condition John Goss Special rumbled up alongside.
"Goss was speechless. He just couldn't believe there were Ford fanatics in the US who not only knew who he was but had taken the care to restore the car named after him to concours condition."
The 1974 Bathurst winner met up with the Falcon coupe fanatics for tea and, as a special treat, enjoyed a lift back to his hotel in one of 'his' cars.
The Australian Falcons were selected by centennial organisers to be included in a 'special interest area' at the Detroit Rally, parked alongside such motoring icons as the GT40 and Shelby Cobra.
Earlier this year, the Falcon was recognised as one of Ford's 'Heart and Soul' vehicles ? one of just 25 identified as the most significant cars in Ford's first 100 years.
