Working in conjunction with Hot 4's magazine and SEMA (Specialist Equipment Marketing Association), Ford has produced a vehicle showcasing the latest in street design while creating a hot four enthusiast?s dream.
"The Laser SR2 is a fantastic hot four in its own right," says Passenger Vehicle Marketing Manager, Stephen Kruk.
"But we're continually looking for new ways to show just how far your imagination can take you with Laser. The combined efforts of everyone involved in this project have really done that.
Modifications to the standard 2.0 litre, fuel-injected DOHC I6 valve engine include a Turbonetics hybrid T3/T4 turbocharger, a Turbonetics racegate external wastegate, a custom-manufactured turbo manifold, a performance Metalcraft front-mounted intercooler, and a Haltech E6 engine management computer.
An Eibach Sports kit with lowered springs has been incorporated to improve the suspension package on the SR2 even further. Braking is provided by huge 330mm DBA cross drilled and slotted rotors along with slotted standard rear rotors.
"The Hot 4's Laser RSR not only drives and sounds like a race car thanks to these 'added extras', it also has the looks to go with the grunt," says Stephen.
"And of course it would be pretty hard to miss in a crowd with its House of Kolor Lime Kandy metallic paint!"
External body features include custom-made front bar, rear bar and side skirts by Fibremotive, an Airforce roof-mounted aluminium spoiler, and 18x8 inch wheels with Speedy Atix-5 black chrome rims.
The interior also fits the race car image with the inclusion of four black Sparco Evo fixed-position racing seats, a Sparco rally steering wheel and alloy gearknob, and new black plush pile carpet. Autometer 25/8-inch fuel pressure, oil temperature and boost pressure gauges are included, along with an Autometer shift light with RPM control box.
The stereo system has also been given a power boost with the inclusion of a Pioneer FHP6600 double din CD/tuner/cassette heat unit, a GMX554 4-channel amplifier, two TSW 1201C 12-inch subwoofers, and TSE 1695 6-inch co-axial speakers. The entire system is housed in a custom stereo enclosure and design by Hi-Tech Acoustics.
The Hot 4's Laser RSR has been produced solely as a project car.
"We were really excited to work with Hot 4's and SEMA on Laser RSR,? says Kruk. ?The results certainly prove that whether you're just looking for a great set of alloys, a full bodykit or a complete overhaul, Laser is the ideal car to build on."
