Continuing the successful partnership between Sony and Ford that yielded the stunning Falcon XR8 Xplod, the Laser SR2 Xplod Turbo is proof that, when it comes to customising a Laser, the only limit is your imagination.
"Laser SR2 fired the first salvo in the hot four war. The SR2 Xplod Turbo raises the bar even further," says Passenger Vehicle Marketing Manager, Stephen Kruk.
"With its in-your-face styling, highly tuned engine and powerhouse sound system, there isn't an inch of this car that hasn't been given the full enthusiast treatment."
Engine modifications are substantial and include a Garrett GT25 ball bearing turbocharger, A.R.E. 550 mm x 300 mm x 75 mm air-to-air intercooler, Turbo XS blow-off valve, K&N air filter, UniChip Engine Management System, Autometer Phantom boost and volt meters and a huge 2.5-inch mandrel-bent exhaust system.
Finished in stunning 'Black Magic' paint, the SR2 Xplod Turbo comes complete with a full bodykit comprising front and rear skirts, rear spoiler and side skirts. Tinted headlights add an aggressive finishing touch to the front end, complimented by huge 17 x 7-inch Speedy Holotype R alloy wheels.
Inside, the body-hugging front sports seats have been retrimmed with black/silver leather, featuring an embroidered Xplod logo. The door trims have received a similar treatment. The car also features driver and passenger airbags, power windows, mirrors and door locks, and Momo gear knob and metal pedals.
The Sony sound system has the power to fill a small hall. Key features include a Sony CDXCA850 L-Cube CD tuner, Sony CDXT67 six-disc changer, a trio of Sony Xplod XM1502SX 750 watt power amplifiers, two Sony Xplod XSL1255G 12-inch subwoofers, two pairs of Sony Xplod XSHF78 midrange and tweeters, Sony Xplod XSF1311 two-way speakers, two six-inch Sony XTL6100MK2 LCD monitors (one in the front, the other in the rear) and a fantastic Sony PlayStation 2 console.
Total power output of the amplifiers is 1200 watts RMS with a shattering output capability of 145 decibels.
The show car is one of four Laser SR2 Xplod Turbos that will be used by Ford and Sony as promotional vehicles around the country at auto salons, industry exhibitions and various product launches.
"Last year the XR8 Xplod proved a huge hit, showing what a bit of imagination could achieve. This year we think we've gone one better, in an effort to create the ultimate hot four."
