Sydney Motor Show patrons will revel in the luxurious look and feel of the new Series III range of Ford Falcons, but hopefully need never take advantage of the most important new addition ? ABS Anti-Lock Brakes.

ABS is now standard across the Falcon passenger range - a further step in Ford's commitment to increased driver and passenger safety.

Unveiled to the public at the 2001 Sydney Motor Show, the safety upgrade is complemented by a variety of cosmetic updates as part of the continued evolution of the Falcon range.

Ford Australia President, Geoff Polites, said the upgrade was designed to add even more value to Ford's flagship and drive sales prior to the arrival of an all-new Falcon model next year.

"The Series III will offer customers enhanced styling and additional features. These benefits will improve the ownership experience.

?The changes represent a subtle refinement of the Falcon look. It is an evolution of the current Falcon design, with minor modifications in response to feedback from Ford customers.

?We also have taken the opportunity to build on Falcon?s award-winning safety package by adding ABS as standard on Forte, which makes it standard across the entire passenger line-up. In the past three years we have continually lifted the bar on safety, with standard dual front airbags, a laminated impact protection panel and pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners. Adding ABS was the next logical step in that process, ? he said.

?Increased demand for Series III will also have a positive impact on resale values. The inclusion of ABS as standard will ensure Falcon remains a sought-after vehicle in the used car market.?

Series III also sees the upgrade of Ford Solutions, a range of plans designed to enhance buyers' ownership experience. Scheduled servicing is now an option across the Series III range, delivering on the consumer's need for a package individually tailored to meet their needs.

"With Ford Solutions, customers will have far more flexibility in developing the individual after-sales servicing option best suited to them," Mr Polites said.

New looks, new equipment, across the range

XR8:
The aggressive new lines of the 'Ford Racing' bodykit that is now standard on XR8 exemplifies the face of Series III. Matched with the hand-built precision of a 220 kW Tickford-enhanced V8 and the control that comes with Ford's double wishbone IRS, the new look completes a true driver's car. Customers also have the option of choosing the existing Tickford bodykit.

"We believe the XR range is the most unique and distinctive vehicle on Australian roads," Mr Polites said.

The styling changes with Series III give the car a dynamic new stance and a sportier, sleeker look.

New, colour-keyed lower profile sideskirts on all models, clear side indicator lenses and a dot matrix windscreen for reduced sun glare complete the Series III package.

Forte:
On Forte, other changes include coloured body side protection mouldings (BSPM?s), and body colour side mirrors that give the car a more integrated look.

Inside, the warm charcoal interior trim has been extended to Forte wagon. Rear power windows are a new option on both wagon and sedan.

 Series III Futura (10.10.2001)

Futura:
Futura is differentiated from Forte by a bright chrome bumper and BSPM inserts, as well as new prestige 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside Futura, there is a new plush velour trim, and rear power windows are now standard. The wagon is available with a warm charcoal interior and also receives the chrome bumper and BSPM inserts.

 Series III Fairmont (10.10.2001)

Fairmont:
Fairmont buyers will, for the first time, be able to specify a leather interior as an option. A six-way power driver's seat is now standard.

Fairmont Ghia:
The addition of standard leather interior and a 10-way power driver's seat with memory function (including a memory facility on exterior mirrors) make the Fairmont Ghia's cabin a true luxury environment. With new look alloy wheels and revised body styling, Fairmont Ghia represents exceptional prestige buying.

Falcon leads its class
Falcon clearly leads its class with superior power and torque, the inherent smoothness of an in-line six-cylinder engine, high levels of driver and passenger safety and the option of a dynamically superior double wishbone IRS.

"We believe the changes will generate increased showroom traffic, particularly after the first public showing at the 2001 Sydney International Motor Show. This range should have us well placed for a successful new model launch next year," Mr Polites said.
