It's a return to the days when the Falcon GT-HO models on the track shared the same design features as the premium performance versions of the road cars.
Ford Australia Design Director, Simon Butterworth said this simultaneous design thinking was central to the core design elements of the BA range.
?We achieved this by starting with the Falcon XT then building the race car straight from there. If you then base the Ford Performance Vehicles range on the race car, the FPV model and race car are so close that buyers can clearly see the linkage."
The design portfolio of the current BA Falcon range consists of two streams: the sporting stream and the sports luxury stream.
The sporting stream consists of the Falcon XT, the sporty Falcon XR models, the premium performance FPV range and the V8 Supercar race car. The FPV range is the highest point in the sporting road car range before you hit the track.
The luxury sporting stream goes from Falcon XT to Futura to Fairmont to Fairmont Ghia which is why the Fairmont Ghia is now much sportier than in the past. Because the luxury sporting stream also has the Falcon XT as its starting point, these models are clearly related to the race car but not as overtly as the Falcon XR and FPV range.
The progression in both streams is obvious, with the V8 Supercar bloodline clearly evident in the sporting stream right back to the Falcon XT.
?These fundamental changes could only have happened in a new design context driven by a cultural shift within Ford," says Butterworth.
Ford Australia is now in the exclusive position of presenting the only complete local range based on a clean sheet design, reinforcing the undiluted emphasis on the blue oval in the new FPV range.
