Small Cars Head Strong Sales Month for FordSmall Cars Head Strong Sales Month for Ford

Ford's critically acclaimed small cars ? Fiesta and Focus ? both recorded their best ever sales results in May to head up a strong sales month for Ford Australia.

Record sales of Focus and Fiesta were backed up by strong performances from Territory, Falcon, Falcon Ute and a fifth consecutive record sales month by Ford Performance Vehicles.

"Our small car range continues to go from strength to strength this year in an extremely competitive market," said Ford Australia Marketing and Sales Vice President Mark Winslow.

Ford sold a total of 2320 Focus and 730 Fiesta units, as both small vehicles continued to build on strong sales results throughout 2006.

"With a steady supply of vehicles and the arrival of the superb XR5 Turbo, Focus is now one of the most popular small cars in the country.

"Sales of the award-winning Focus are up 75 per cent year on year, with its combination of performance and practicality at a very reasonable price.

"Similarly, the Fiesta range continues to build its popularity with customers, with total Fiesta sales up more than 25 per cent year on year."

In addition to strong sales of imported product, Mr Winslow said the locally produced Falcon, Territory and Falcon Ute line-up all recorded strong sales results in May.

"Territory was once again the dominant player in the Australian SUV market, with a total of 1809 sales to clearly eclipse its rivals.

"With the imminent arrival of the much awaited Territory Turbo range, we look forward to a continuation of our excellent sales for our award-winning SUV this year." Mr Winslow said.

Falcon Ute was the biggest-selling vehicle in the 4x2 utility segment with 1488 units, while Falcon passenger sales totalled 3388 units, increasing its share of the large car market year on year from 32.5 per cent to 33.8.

Ford Performance Vehicles has continued its outstanding 2006, setting another sales record for May with 216 vehicles sold, giving Ford's performance arm five consecutive record sales months.

Courier 4x2 was another in the Ford line-up with a strong sales result in May, selling a record monthly total of 477 units. Total Courier 4x2 sales are up nearly 30 per cent year on year.

In total, Ford sold 11,145 vehicles in May, giving the company a total market share of 13.4 per cent for the month.
