Six Fords in V8 Top 10 in Adelaide

Staff, Monday March 22, 2004.

Marcos Ambrose has headed six Ford's in the top-10 shootout for the opening of the V8 Supercar Series, the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide.

Ambrose was the fastest driver after qualifying, but was unable to match that in the one-lap dash, setting the third quickest time.

Pole position went to Greg Murphy ahead of Jason Bright.

Although disappointed with the shootout result, Ambrose is confident of having a strong package for tomorrow's opening 250km leg of the weekend.

?I wish I had that lap again that's for sure,? said Ambrose.

?Starting from the second row is still at the right end and we're really looking forward to getting the show on the road tomorrow.

?Our car has been very good today and I see no reason why it won't be good tomorrow. It's going to be tough and a very big challenge on the car and body alike.

?It's important to start the season strong here, but with the concrete walls that line this place, any mistake will be harshly punished.?

John Bowe (OzEmail Racing) will start along side his fellow Tasmanian.

?It's good to be near the front at the start of the weekend, now we need to continue that in the races,? said Bowe.

?Our team has worked very hard in the off-season and it's no fluke that we've qualified near the front.

?I'm also pleased to see a few Fords at the top of the sheets. We couldn't let Marcos take all the glory.?

The first 250km (78 lap) race start at 2pm local time.
