In cloudy and cool conditions, the Ford Credit Falcon driver was third fastest around the legendary 6.21 kilometre Mount Panorama circuit during the day?s one and only hour-long practice, the first time the V8 Supercars have turned a wheel for Bathurst 2002.
?The car was quick straight out of the box,? said Seton.
?We only had to make some minor changes and we were able to set a very good time right at the end of the session.
?To be honest it wasn?t the best lap, so that gives me plenty of confidence to go even quicker in tomorrow?s qualifying session.
?After a tough year where our practice performances haven?t been all that good, it?s great to start a weekend so well.
Fastest in practice today was Jason Bright followed by teammate Mark Skaife.
The 37-year-old Victorian, two-time winner of the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993 and 1997, has never won the race that his father Bo (Barry) claimed way back in 1965.
Partnered by talented young Tasmanian driver Owen Kelly, Seton is totally focussed on winning Australia?s most important motor race.
One of the biggest talking points after the session was the new raised kerbs around the track; in particular Reid Park at the top of the mountain.
?The kerb is simply too high and it?s on the inside of one of the fastest corners of the track,? said Seton.
?We didn?t know about any changes and despite being on the technical committee of the championship, I only found out when I drove around the track.
?I hope a change can be made very quickly, as any accident caused from the kerb will be a big one.? Seton led four other Fords in the top ten at the end of practice, with last round winner David Besnard (Caltex Havoline Racing) fifth quickest and last year?s Bathurst pole winner Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) in seventh.
Tony Longhurst put his Team Betta Electrical Falcon into ninth and Mark Larkham (Orrcon Racing) 10th.
Favoured Fords outside the top 10 after today?s initial session were the 00 Motorsport Falcon of Craig Lowndes and Neil Crompton, in 14th, and the Shell Helix Falcon of Paul Radisich/Steve Johnson in 22nd.
