12 months in preparation and building, the new car has proved to be a rocket during pre-Bathurst testing in the hands of Seton and two-time Bathurst winner Steve Richards.
?It?s quicker, handles well and is far more responsive to adjustments than any other race car I have ever driven,? said Seton.
?We back-to-back tested the new #5 car with Steve?s #6 Falcon he has run throughout the year and the differences were major.
?I firmly believe we have one of the best driver combinations at Bathurst - now we have the right hardware to go with that.
Peter Beehag in Queensland built the original shell and roll cage, before the FTR engineers integrated a whole range of development ideas, including getting the weight down to the category limit of 1350 kilograms.
?It?s a credit to our team, who have worked really hard on making sure this car was going to be a potential Bathurst winner,? said Steve Richards.
?The level of enthusiasm around the project has everyone excited about our chances and we are very confident going to the biggest race in Australian motor sport.
?Winning in 1998 and ?99 was great, but I?m determined on gaining another win and giving Glenn his first.?
Richards?s #6 XR8 will be piloted at Bathurst by six-time winner Jim Richards and 2000 Konica series champion Dean Canto.
The pair combined to take eighth place at the VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500 in August.
Jim Richards will be starting his 30th straight Bathurst 1000 kilometre event, making him by far the most experienced driver in the field.
?Bathurst is still very much a place I really enjoy racing at,? said Jim Richards.
?The race at Queensland was really good for Dean and I to better understand each other.
?We have tested again since then and I?m confident of a solid performance at Mount Panorama.
Just turned 21, Canto is looking forward to his first start at Bathurst with a premier V8 team.
?FTR has gone to great lengths to giving Jim and I a very good car for Bathurst,? said Canto.
?This is my big opportunity to forge a career in V8 Supercars and I?m confident of doing a good job for FTR at Bathurst.
FTR will begin practice on Thursday 4 October, with qualifying on Friday and a top-15 shootout on the Saturday. The V8 Bathurst 1000 gets underway from 10am Sunday.
