Seton Fastest in Bathurst Qualifying

Ford Tickford Racing's (FTR) Glenn Seton has recorded the fastest time during qualifying for the V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst's Mount Panorama.

Seton's time of 2:09.6770 was a new record lap around 6.213 km circuit.

On a strong day for Ford - nine Falcon AUXR8's will take to the track tomorrow in the top-15 shootout which will determine the first 7.5 rows of the grid for Sunday's race.

Seton set the time in a new Falcon that the team has been preparing all year for the Bathurst event.

"The car is obviously really good and we were on top of things today," said Seton.

"With the car being so good - we have steadily made some improvements and I feel very confident of holding onto pole during tomorrow's top-15 shootout.

"I have a two-time winning co-driver in Steve Richards - so I have a very good chance of finally winning this race.

Second quickest in today's qualifying was fellow Ford driver Craig Lowndes in the Gibson Motorsport Falcon.

The very next corner after setting the time, Lowndes spun into a sand trap.

"I had just done a very good lap and went in a little too deep at Shell Corner," said Lowndes.

"There was no damage was done and I'm very happy with our new car.

"It's a strong showing for Ford already, and with nine cars in tomorrow's top 15 things are looking good for the Falcon squad.

The top 15 shootout gets underway from 10.45am tomorrow. The order will be slowest to fastest with Seton set to tackle the mountain last.

An informal media luncheon outlining the future plans of Ford Racing will be held from 12.30pm on Saturday 6 October in the Ford Corporate suite above the Mount Panorama Media Centre. An RSVP is essential, so please contact Ben Beazley if you can attend.
