Ford sold 1596 Falcon utes in January to continue its domination of the ute segment.
The January sales gave Ford 34.0 per cent market share, more than 10 per cent clear of its nearest competitor.
The figures follow on from a record 2001 sales figure of 16,955 units and continue the Falcon ute's astonishing sales success.
Since 1998, when Ford sold just 6769 utes, sales have risen a staggering 151 per cent.
Ford SUV and Light Commercial Marketing Manager, Kevin Lillie, said the Falcon ute had continued to dominate the market despite the introduction of a new model from its main competitor.
Of particular note is the success of the XR range of Falcon utes, which in 2001 recorded figures up 70 per cent year on year.
Mr Lillie said the success of the Falcon ute could be attributed to several factors.
"It's obviously driven by product and the Falcon range has definitely hit the mark with Australian buyers.
"As well, the boom in recreational vehicles has made people take a second look at Falcon utes and they obviously like what they are seeing.
"In XR form it's the original Aussie two-door sports car and offers a unique level of performance, practicality and flexibility that other vehicles can't match," he said.
