Richards took overall victory last year, and he’s keen to grab his first round win of 2001 and open the FTR’s overall victory account.
“Back to back wins at Calder does have a nice ring to it,” said Richards.
“It would be a great boost for our team, which has worked very hard this season, only to have just come up short.
“Our speed is very good - my race win in the second race in Canberra is proof of that.
“Now all the elements, including a good qualifying run, are set to come together at Calder.
Teammate Glenn Seton has been the most consistent qualifier of any driver in 2001. Seton is the only driver to start from within the top six positions at every round after qualifying and the shootout.
“With no pit stops in the three sprint races at Calder, I’ll need to keep that good qualifying run going,” said Seton.
“With the exception of actually grabbing pole, I’ve started on the front row and led the field - so I’m due to get a victory.
“Despite no Ford victory at Calder since 1988, I did score my first touring car win in 1987 there, so it would be great to hit back this year with a win.
The team will carry out a comprehensive test session at Winton Raceway (Victoria) as part of preparations for Calder on Monday 9 July.
FTR will also use the session to test endurance drivers Jim Richards and Dean Canto, who will join the team for the Queensland 500 and Bathurst 1000 events.
“It will good for the team as well as Glenn and Steve, to get some feedback from an extra two quality drivers,” said team manager Ivan Taylor.
“Jim is one of the most experiences guys in Australian motor sport, and Dean’s win in last year’s V8 Konica Series further underlines just how good our line-up is.
“We aim to make further refinements on the race cars for Calder, and there’s no doubt that Steve and Glenn will be that bit better off going to Calder after having a solid run on the Monday.
Calder will feature three sprint races of 21-laps, as well as a top-10 shootout to determine the first five rows of the grid. There will be no compulsory tyre pit stops.
