Michael Guest and co-driver Mark Stacey completed reconnaissance yesterday, before a shakedown run aboard the Ford Focus this morning at Geeveston south of Hobart.
Unlike the opening three rounds of the championship in Canberra, Busselton (WA) and the Sunshine Coast; much cooler and wetter conditions are expected this weekend.
Snow has covered the surrounding mountain peaks, with plenty of the white stuff on the road side.
"The great thing about the Australian Rally Championship is the contrasting conditions we face," said Guest.
"This rally is open and fast. For our rear-wheel-drive Focus we really don't want wet conditions, but snow and ice is something that we all don't face that often, so it's challenging for every car in the field.
"The car felt very strong in the shakedown, although the stage is nothing like the forest sections.
"We'd like to set some very quick times and finishing well inside the top-10. I'm sure the warmest place will be inside the car this weekend!"
North Hobart's restaurant and shopping strip on Elizabeth Street will play host to the Ceremonial Start this evening before official competition gets underway tomorrow morning in the Huon Valley.
The Safari Rally of Tasmania consists of 20 timed stages totalling 178 competitive kilometres.
