PM Offers Congratulations to Ford

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has extended his congratulations to Ford Motor Company Chairman and CEO William Clay Ford on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary.

The note from Mr Howard reads:

Dear Mr Ford On behalf of the Australian people, I am pleased to offer my congratulations to the Ford Motor Company on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. Your company has had a profound impact on the development of mass manufacturing and affordable personal transportation throughout the world.

The Ford Motor Company has also played a very significant role in Australia's development since the establishment of its first operations in a leased woolstore in Geelong, Victoria in 1925. The Australian people are greatly appreciative of your company's contribution to our national life over many years, and look forward to Ford Australia's continuing leadership role in our automotive manufacturing industry.

I wish the company well in all its centennial celebrations.

John Howard

Ford Australia will mark the company's centennial with a celebration at the Ford Discovery Centre in Geelong on Sunday, June 15.
