"Laser has always appealed to people looking for a zippy, good looking car that offers them the full range of comforts for its class," says Passenger Vehicle Marketing Manager, Stephen Kruk.
"It was time for us to build on the aspects those aspects of the Laser "personality", give the vehicle some more 'oomph' and build its image in the marketplace. The improvements we've made across the range will bring new customers to the Laser brand while not alienating those who have always loved this car."
"The 1.8 litre SR also adds a similar bodykit to the one available on the SR2 but with the 1.8 litre engine and 15" alloy wheels as standard," says Stephen.
The SR bodykit includes front and rear skirts, side rocker mouldings, a rear-mounted spoiler, a big bore chrome exhaust tip, mesh bumper inserts, and sporty SR decals.
"The SR will appeal to buyers driven by good looks and style, with zippy performance. It is a fantastic complement to the SR2, which will appeal to those looking for extra performance."
"The new front bumper and chrome grille surround provide a stronger, squarer appearance to the front of the vehicle."
The standard package features include central locking, a single slot CD player, a stylish, two-toned interior trim, and a front driver airbag. Other standard features include air conditioning, power steering and an engine immobiliser. A passenger airbag is also standard with the GLXi, SR and SR2, and available as an option with ABS on the LXi hatch.
Additional enhancements to the Laser range include lidded cup-holders, new fabrics, a front passenger seat back pocket, brushed silver centre dash in GLXi, SR and SR2, and improved layout and operation of climate controls.
"The enhancements to Laser don't stop with just exterior and interior features," says Stephen.
"We've also undertaken a range of body-engineering work across the entire range to improve vehicle dynamics."
Increased body rigidity provides a solid platform for the suspension to do its job and minimise body roll and vehicle pitch during cornering and braking, while improvements to the suspension mounting system include an added front suspension transverse member, and a stiffer front suspension crossmember. Improvements to the rigidity of the rear suspension cross lateral link and central mount further enhance handling and provide a quieter ride.
Safety enhancements include new technology structural resin foam inserts at the top of the B-pillars for improved vehicle safety and reduced NVH.
Exterior colours include Black Magic, Amazon Green, Crimson Glow, Atlantic Blue, Platinum, Golden Sands, Polar White, Verdant Green, and Quicksilver.
