New Ford Courier Debuts in Thailand

Ford Australia today revealed the first photo of the all-new Courier light truck range that will go on sale here at the end of 2006.

?The light truck market is one of the hottest segments in Australia and this new model will ensure Ford remains at the forefront of this important market,? said Ford Australia President Tom Gorman.

Mr Gorman?s comments coincided with the world debut of the new Ranger ? as it is known in Thailand ? at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

?While the Australian Courier will have noteworthy differences to the model revealed, the overall line-up has been redesigned to provide excellent engine performance, and interior refinement and passenger comfort, while retaining the superb functional capabilities Ford customers have come to expect,? he said.

Two new common rail four-cylinder diesel engines will be offered; a 2.5-litre version or a more powerful 3.0-litre version, ensuring the new Courier has a significantly improved towing capacity.

The new line-up has a tougher, more muscular look, tapping into the legendary Ford ?Tough Truck? DNA.

It features a distinctive ruggedness, running from the grille through to the tailgate, with a raised beltline contributing to a new sleeker look.

Inside, the interior offers a comfortable and luxurious experience for driver and passenger with sedan-like treatment.

The modern and sporty three-cluster instrument panel is complemented by a bright chrome centre stack, housing the integrated CD player and AM/FM radio with MP3 capability.

Ergonomically designed seats ensure superb comfort, while plenty of innovative storage areas are provided for convenience and functionality.

The ladder frame chassis gets increased rigidity, while a tougher and more durable suspension contributes to improved ride quality.

Steering has been optimised for easy handling at low speeds and firmer steering at highway cruising speeds.

Ground clearance has been increased for better ramp-over angle, improving the Courier's already impressive off-road capabilities.

Mr Gorman said further details would be released closer to launch.
