Further underling the future of the Pirtek Racing program, SBR also announced they had agreed to take up the remaining one-year option on the services of driver Marcos Ambrose and extend his contract through to the end of 2003.
?Pirtek has provided great support since my brother Jimmy and I first formed our own team at the start of 1998,? said Director of SBR Ross Stone.
?In sport or business, you need to outline your future - this arrangement with Pirtek and Marcos clearly gives us great stability as we plan for the next three years.
?Pirtek and Marcos share our enthusiasm for the V8 program and I?m sure we are in for a very exciting period in the coming three years.
To celebrate the announcements, the #4 Ford Falcon AUXR8 of Ambrose and Wayne Wakefield will run a new dynamic colour scheme for Australia?s great race.
?The extension of the relationship will continue providing a high profile for Pirtek in a national sport that is experiencing tremendous growth and following,? said Glenn Duncan General Manager of Pirtek.
?We have 68 outlets across Australia, and when we asked our network of franchisees if they wanted to continue with Stone Brothers ? the answer was a resounding yes!? said Mr Duncan.
?With Marcos as the driver, this team certainly has great potential on the track and we want to share that enthusiasm and success in our business?.
?We along with SBR are very excited about the team?s chances at Bathurst, we won there together in 1998 and we look very strong for 2001?.
For Marcos Ambrose the extension of his contract with Pirtek and SBR, is the first multi-year deal of the V8 rookie?s career.
?Before this year I was racing in Europe not really knowing where my future would come from,? said Ambrose.
?Ross and Jimmy offered me a great opportunity this year and it?s been the best time of my life.
?The new deal with SBR comes on the back of a five-year contract with Ford Racing, so I can now fully concentrate on chasing V8 wins including Bathurst.
?I have not driven a V8 at Bathurst before, but with the SBR team behind Pirtek Racing, both Wayne and I are very confident.
Practice for the V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst gets underway from Thursday 4 October - with the 161-lap race itself starting at 10am Sunday 7 October.
