New Birthday-Suit for Laser's 21stNew Birthday-Suit for Laser's 21st

The popular Ford Laser celebrates its 21st birthday in Australia with a range of snazzy new colours.

The flashy, sporty Laser is ready to party in Red Revenge, Extreme Blue and Goldrush. These colours add to the already spicy selection of Amazon Green, Quicksilver, Polar White, Black Magic and Atlantic Blue. And just as Laser begins to recover from its 21st, Shiraz will make an appearance in April.

The new colours reflect Laser's ability to continually reinvent itself to appeal to new fans during its 21 happy years.

The first Laser was born at Ford's Homebush plant in Sydney 21 years ago.

Ford Australia has parented Laser from its early days of instant success as an infant in the 80s, through its terrific teenage years and into adulthood in the noughties.

Laser started out as the trendy square-edged KA model hatchback, with the first major change to its look coming with the extremely popular "bubbleback" KC Laser in 1985.

New styling was introduced with the KE model in 1987. At the same time, the sporty TX3 version became a hit with rally and race drivers. The 90's saw the introduction of the KF model in 1990 and the KH in 1991. The imported KJ Laser was released in 1994 and remained on the market until the current model KN was unveiled in 1999.

The current SR2 and SR models have injected fire back into the Laser range, with sales increasing from 11,271 in 2000 to 15,374 in 2001.

The total retail figure for Laser in Australia since 1981 is 469,740 units.
