A special award to honour Howard Marsden, General Manager Racing for Ford Australia, has been announced by Ford President Geoff Polites.Speaking at a special function to honour Marsden, who died recently after a fight with cancer, Ford President Geoff Polites spoke of Marsden's keen interest in seeing new programmes develop which would encourage new talent into the sport at grass roots level.
"Howard spent a lot of time encouraging those who worked in the less glamorous side of the business," said Polites.
"For example, he gave a lot of input into a new motorsport engineering programme at the Wodonga TAFE, a programme designed to encourage young people into a future aligned with the sport."
Polites said that while the company wanted to honour Marsden with a special tribute, that it was felt a glamour award of some sort just wasn't the right fit.
"Howard made a tremendous contribution to the company, both in the field of motorsport, and in his work on the product development side. His motorsport career is well documented, but less well-known is his work behind the scenes on bringing a new generation into the sport.
"We wanted to honour him with something that would illustrate his efforts in encouraging youngsters into the sport and ensuring the sport had a future," he said
