Mark Larkham Makes Smart Choice

Ford V8 Supercar driver Mark Larkham has welcomed Brisbane based technology company, Intelligent Card Systems (ICS), aboard his AU XR8 for the next three years.

ICS Ford Team Smartcar will initially be a single-car entry, beginning this weekend at the opening round of the 2001 Shell Championship Series at Phillip Island.

Plans for the second half of the year include a second Ford V8 to complement the team’s goal of winning Australia’s premier motor race, the FAI 1000, at Bathurst on October 7.

The team finalised preparations with a test session at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich on Monday 19 March.

“The car not only looked great on the track, it ran faultlessly and I’m confident of getting things off to a great start this weekend at Phillip Island,” said Larkham.

“With the growing popularity of V8 Supercars, I’m confident that we can give ICS great value for their support, and here’s hoping that the initial three years turns into many more.

”The Grand Prix meeting at Albert Park showed that all the Ford teams have picked up the pace, and we’re looking forward to being amongst the Blue Oval brigade at the front of the pack.

Larkham ran with sponsorship from the Mitre10 hardware group for several years, before the company decided to change its marketing focus.

The team has been working around the clock to finalise the deal with ICS and to have the car painted and ready for the final test session as well as the trip south to Phillip Island.

This weekend’s opening round of the 2001 Shell Championship Series features two one-hour, or 28-lap races, including a mandatory pit stop. Qualifying will have the extra spice of a shootout to decide the first ten positions on the grid.

Information on ICS and its products can be found at www.intelligentcards.com.au
