Ford Australia employee, Georgio Torcia, believes Henry Ford would be pretty proud of him if the motoring legend was still alive today.
Georgio is the longest serving employee at Ford's Broadmeadows assembly plant on the outskirts of Melbourne, contributing 43 years to the automotive manufacturer. Georgio was there when the first Australian-built Falcons came down the line in 1960, and since then nearly three million more Falcon vehicles have left the factory.
Georgio will stand alongside Ford Australia President Geoff Polites when hundreds of employees gather tomorrow to celebrate the founding of the company.
It was 100 years ago that Henry Ford launched the company in a small converted wagon factory in the American city of Detroit. Today, Ford is the world's second largest automaker with 350,000 employees, operating in more then 200 markets on six continents.
Georgio is particularly chuffed by the naming of the vehicle that he has worked on all his life, the Australian Falcon, as one of Ford's 25 most significant vehicles of the century ? out of a field of 1000 models produced by Ford globally since it began operation.
Tomorrow's commemoration is invitation-only for employees to acknowledge their vital contribution to the company's centennial. Employees will be treated to a street theatre party in the normally sedate grounds of the Ford Assembly Plant. There will be roving musicians, street performers and magicians.
Rare and historic Ford cars will on display, including the oldest operating Ford car in Australia, a 100-year-old Model A. Then there will be Ford's latest models including the legendary FPV GT.
