Lowndes Wins Final V8 Race at GP

Although the track was wet, Lowndes choose to start the 10-lap race on slick dry-weather tyres.

He slipped back from his fifth place on the grid in the early stages, but a safety car bunched-up the field and he soon made his way into the lead with just two laps remaining.

?The early stages were pretty hairy, but I was confident that we could climb through the field as long as the track continued to dry,? said Lowndes.

?We have been chipping away this weekend, and to finish with a win is a great bonus.

?Our confidence is on a high and I can?t wait for the first championship round in Adelaide in two weeks time.?

Another notable performance came from Simon Wills in the Cat Falcon, who climbed from 21st on the grid to claim sixth in the race.

?Being down the grid we thought the gamble of going to slicks was worth the risk,? said Wills.

?I remained aggressive in the race and picked-off the guys in front of me.

?The Cat Falcon has been working well in the races and I?m sure that we can pick-up our qualifying form at the opening round of the championship.?

The opening round of the 2002 V8 Supercar Series, the Clipsal 500 will be run from 15-17 March on the streets of Adelaide.
