Mark Skaife won the round; making it five straight round wins to start the year. Todd Kelly claimed second overall.
Lowndes recovered from a controversial opening race yesterday, when he was given a ?drive-through? penalty for a pit lane infringement.
The Ford Falcon AUXR8 driver got on with the job today, and despite some minor damage in the day?s opening race he climbed through the order in the final 50-lap race.
?It was a real street fight out there this weekend,? said Lowndes.
?There were a lot of incidents out there, so to avoid all of those and have a very strong run is great for our team.
?We?ve made huge gains in the car?s performance this weekend and I?m positive we can get even going to the next round in Perth?.
Caltex Havoline Racing?s David Besnard put in a solid performance to finish fifth overall, keeping out of all the dramas and fighting off the challenge from many of the top teams.
?Our aim this weekend was to be consistent and we?ve brought home pretty much a straight car and a bag load of championship points,? said Besnard.
?We?ve had some bad luck this year, so to have a good run at an event where so many points were on offer is a great confidence boost for us going into the second half of the year.
Besnard?s Stone Brothers Racing teammate (Pirtek Racing) was in a strong position to take overall victory after the opening two races. However, a collision while trying to pass Jason Bright in the final race dropped him a lap and placed him 13th overall for the weekend.
The day proved very tough for a number of leading Ford teams, including Glenn Seton (Ford Credit Racing), Paul Radisich (Shell Helix Racing) and Max Wilson (Team Betta Electrical) who were all involved in major incidents over the day?s two races.
Ford next goes racing on Australia?s west coast with round six of this year?s V8 Supercar Series at Perth Barbagallo Raceway on June 28-30.
