Ford’s LPG Challenge arrived in Brisbane on Sunday August 20 after covering more than 11,700 kilometres and spending only $851.95 on fuel.
With approximately 2000 kilometres still to travel before returning to Melbourne on Friday August 25, the Challenge is on track to achieve its ‘Around Australia for around $1000’ target.
“With rising fuel prices, good fuel economy is a critical element for new car buyers and the Falcon range of LPG vehicles represents outstanding value for money,” said Ford Australia President Mr Tom Gorman.
“Once it completes its 23 day drive around mainland Australia, our LPG Challenge will have proven that it is possible to travel long distances in comfort, filling up solely on LPG ? and all for around $1000.”
Sales of LPG Falcons have increased significantly since its first introduction in 1999. In 2004 LPG Falcons accounted for 6% of annual Falcon sales. In 2005 it had risen to 11%, and so far this year, approximately 21% of all Falcon sales are LPG.
“The Federal Government’s recent announcement of a $1000 rebate for private customers buying factory-fitted LPG vehicles has generated significant additional interest in our dedicated LPG Falcon,” said Mr Gorman.
“As we are proving with our LPG Challenge, a new dedicated LPG Ford Falcon represents an outstanding offer for Australian families. At current fuel prices, motorists can expect to save approximately $40 per tank with an LPG vehicle versus an equivalent petrol model.”
The LPG Challenge team will spend Monday August 21 in Brisbane before heading to Tamworth on Tuesday August 22. From Tamworth, the Challenge will arrive in Sydney on Wednesday August 23, and then onto Canberra on Thursday. The team will arrive back at Ford’s Campbellfield headquarters at approximately 3:00pm on Friday August 25.
