Jim Beam Racing (JBR) led the field for Ford at Barbagallo Raceway with Steven Johnson and Will Davison finishing fourth and fifth consecutively for round two of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship series.

The Beam boys had pace from the outset with top ten results in qualifying, and remained frontrunners for the weekend’s three 50 lap races on the 2.415 kilometre circuit in Western Australia, under hot conditions.
Johnson and Davison had extremely similar results and showed that the JBR cars have speed, setting lap times competitive with race leaders Garth Tander and Rick Kelly. Johnson displayed his racing prowess, in particular with a pass on Mark Skaife in lap one of race three today.

“Barbagallo is a short circuit, the lap times are under a minute so the drivers really are under pressure to not make any mistakes. Good strategy and immaculate pit stops are a must – Dick Johnson and his team proved to have the whole package this weekend.
“The team is experienced, they are under the watch of Dick who is no stranger to the sport, and Adrian Burgess who is from an F1 background. With Steve fighting fit and young Will’s true talent starting to reflect in his results, we can only predict more success.

“Jim Beam Racing showed this weekend that they are extremely competitive, with both their cars running so closely in lap times and position we have seen a consistency that is sure to carry through to upcoming rounds.”
Additional Ford success saw Craig Lowndes qualify third and finish race one fourth in the #888 TeamVodafone Falcon. A struggle with car setup translated into a slight slip back in position, despite a stellar driving performance across today’s two 50 lap races – he finished sixth for the weekend.
Mark Winterbottom was set back with engine troubles in qualifying that saw him start 15th for race one despite having the second fastest practice time. He charged his way back up the order across the three races in the #5 Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon, ending seventh overall.
Clipsal pole-sitter James Courtney encountered a difficult weekend starting with an incident in Friday’s practice that saw significant damage to the #4 Jeld-Wen Racing Falcon. The Stone Brothers Racing team worked around the clock to fix the damage, and Courtney qualified sixth, but continued car trouble throughout the weekend left him in 16th position for the round.

Team Kiwi Racing favourite Paul Radisich proved his fitness to drive in last week’s test session, and returned to the drivers seat at Barbagallo finishing 15th for the round – just able to grab some points under the new system.
Ford V8 Supercar teams and drivers will hit the track again in New Zealand (20 – 22 April) for round three of the 2007 Championship series.
