Winton Raceway is one of FTR’s designated test tracks, with the other being Phillip Island.
After combining at the recent VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500, FTR will return to individual driver racing at Winton, with Seton aboard the #5 Falcon AUXR8 and Richards steering car #6.
In 2000 Seton put the #5 car on pole position in a new record time, he took the second of the day’s three races to eventually finish third for the round.
“Our team knows Winton extremely well which clearly is a bonus on what is a very difficult circuit to pass,” said Seton.
“We saw in Queensland that local teams had an advantage in qualifying with the first two spots going to the Fords of Stone Brothers Racing.
“When we visited Phillip Island at the start of the year Steve and I started side-by-side on the third row - I’d like to see the same situation but a couple of rows further up.
At the VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500 Seton qualified the lead FTR Falcon in eighth position. Richards started the car in the race and was as high as fourth place before engine dramas ended his and Seton’s day early.
“What Queensland did show was that we are amongst the pace setters in the V8 Supercar championship,” said Richards.
“We are heading in the right direction in terms of performance and handling.
“Add that to the confidence Glenn and I have at the Winton track and things look pretty good.
“This is also the last race before Bathurst, so a strong performance will be an advantage going to the biggest race of the year.
The performance of the FTR crew won’t end at preparation with compulsory tyre pit stops in each of the 32 lap races.
The FTR crew also gained a new member on Saturday 1 September when Richards’ wife Angela gave birth to their second child a little girl named Priya Catherine.
In Steve’s words “Both mum and daughter are gorgeous”. Older brother Clayton (one year old) is still wondering what all the fuss is about.
