Grand Final Time for V8 Supercars at Sandown

After the longest season ever in V8 Supercar Racing, the final meeting of the 13-round Shell Championship Series takes place at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne between November 30 and December 2.

Ford Racing will bring l0 teams and 12 drivers to the V8 Ultimate at Sandown, with the aim of repeating its 2000 success when Falcon AUXR?s filled seven of the first ten positions, including victory to Paul Radisich of Shell Helix Racing.

Along with teammate Steve Johnson, the Shell Helix Racing team has taken overall wins in Canberra, Perth and Queensland, making it the best-performed Ford team.

Radisich is keen to extend that record with a repeat performance at Sandown in 2001.

?Sandown is a circuit where the Ford power comes to the forefront,? said Radisich.

?It?s the last blast for 2001 and I know that all the Ford teams are keen to go into the summer break with a victory to their names.

?I?m after nothing short of victory, so I?m sure it?s going to be another great day at Sandown for the Blue Oval.

?With the championship now settled, the big winners will be the fans who?ll see everyone really go for it. There?s no doubt that this will be one of the best rounds of the 2001 season.

The 2000 results at Sandown will also be remembered for Steve Ellery?s (Super Cheap Auto Racing) emotional first race win and second place overall.

?That was certainly a great day for our team, but I prefer to look forward with enthusiasm to Sandown 2001,? said Ellery.

?I?m currently placed ninth in the championship, well ahead of some of the big names, so that proves last year?s result at Sandown was not a one-off result.

?Our Super Cheap Auto Falcon has been very reliable and our pit crew have been improving with quicker and quicker tyre stops.

?There?s no lack in enthusiasm from the driver or the team, so we feel another top result at Sandown can come our way in 2001.

The V8 Ultimate has been billed as one of the marquee race meetings of 2001 with fans able to see the V8 Supercars on the track from Friday for practice and qualifying.

Saturday features a top-15 shootout followed by the first 48-lap race with compulsory tyre pit stop. Sunday?s schedule includes another two 48-laps races.

Also on the schedule is the final round of the 2001 Ford Racing Australia Formula Ford championship, where the future stars of V8 Supercars will be on show.
