Run to coincide with the VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500, the Grand Final will see a capacity grid of 32 karts, with drivers from around Australia, New Zealand and even the UK.
Victoria?s Clint Cathcart wrapped-up the title at the previous round at Boliver outside Adelaide, but with the V8 Supercar stars watching on he?s keen to score his third win of the year.
?Racing in front of the V8 guys is a huge incentive,? said the 23-year old from Bundoora.
?You really want to show just what you can do, but also not make any mistakes.
?When you consider guys like last year?s Queensland 500 pole sitter Marcos Ambrose came through the karting ranks, it really does make you try that bit harder.
One driver who?ll be out to impress is 19-year-old Ipswich racer Scott Auld. Currently second in the Ford KartStars Series, Auld is keen to finish off the year with at his home track.
?I know this track really well, but there?s so many good drivers in this series it?ll be tough work,? said Auld.
?I enjoy the challenge of the KartStars Series and by securing that second place with a win would be a great reward for a good year?.
The Grand Final race is scheduled for 7.30pm on the Saturday night. The Ford V8 Supercar drivers will be on hand from 6pm signing autographs, watching the race and awarding the trophies.
In just its third year of existence, the KartStars is the only motor racing series aimed solely at identifying talented Australian drivers and providing them with a clear and direct path, regardless of their ability to raise the significant sums of money required to compete at the top levels.
Instead of simply picking the winner of an existing series, Ford management realised that to really identify talent, a one-make class had to be created where the strength of competition relied on skill rather than money.
The top-four placegetters from the KartStars Series will be put through an intensive evaluation process with the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS). Two of these four drivers will receive a full season in the 2003 Australian Formula Ford Series courtesy of Ford Racing as well as a day?s testing with the Super Cheap Auto Racing V8 Supercar team of Steve Ellery.
All competitors run the same Drew Price Engineering (DPE) Arrow chassis and the Rotax Max FR125 (cc) engines.
A control Bridgestone YGK tyre is used specifically for this Formula, and is the same tyre that was used at the World Max Challenge final and during the Ford series in 2000 and 2001.
