GT Earns its Stripes

Bold is beautiful, according to early production figures for the new Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) range.

Wild colours and performance stripes are proving a popular choice on new GT, GTP and Pursuit performance vehicles.

During May, Blood Orange was the most popular colour in the FPV range, with production at more than double the rate of the second most popular shade, Citric Acid ? a bright, retro yellow-green. Phantom (deep metallic purple) and Blueprint (bright mid-blue metallic) are the next most popular colours.

Stripes are proving popular too. More than half of some colours in the new range are being ordered with the FPV stripe package (optional on GT and a no cost option on GT-P).

?Our new FPV GT is the first ongoing production model to revive the stripes since they last appeared on the XY Falcon GT in 1972,? said Ford Performance Vehicles Managing Director, Mr David Flint.

?The stripes have become a big hit. There also appears to an overwhelming preference being shown for the wildest colours in the FPV range.?

The choice of colour seems to be the key factor in determining which vehicles leave the factory sporting stripes.

?Obviously the sample numbers are quite small at this stage, but it seems the stripes are more popular with some colours than others. For example, only a third of Blood Orange vehicles are being produced with the matt black GT stripes, while more than 65 per cent of Citric Acid vehicles are carrying stripes. For the other colours, GT stripes represent about 40 per cent of our vehicles.

?There is one exception, though. The majority of orders for Winter White vehicles have included the optional Vivid Blue stripes, recalling the historic Cobra days,? David said.

In line with forecasts, Pursuit ute production is running at 20 per cent of total FPV volume, with Blood Orange and Blueprint running neck-and-neck as the most popular colour choices for Australia's most powerful production ute.
