For this year?s Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 on 13 October Ford will bring out of retirement the very cars that finished side-by-side in the famous 1-2 finish of 1977, driven by Allan Moffat and Colin Bond.
Four times Bathurst champion Moffat and 1969 winner Bond will complete two demonstration laps in their 1977 Ford Falcon XC racecars, as part of the unveiling of the 2003 Ford Falcon V8 Supercar at 8.45am Sunday morning.
In 1977 Moffat, partnered by Belgium motor racing legend Jackie Ickx, took the chequered flag barely a nose ahead of Bond and co-driver Alan Hamilton, in the closest-ever finish to the annual endurance event in Mount Panorama history.
Moffat, who retired from active competition in 1989, was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to motor sport and is a member of the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame.
?I can?t wait to get back behind the wheel of my old Falcon,? said Moffat.
?I am not going to set any lap records but rather enjoy the moment, and help commemorate one of the greatest moments of my career.?
Colin Bond ended his active driving career in 1995, but remains part of the scene as the V8 Supercar Driving Standards Observer.
?The XC was just a fantastic car to drive,? said Bond.
?It?s vastly different to today?s racecars, of course, and I?m really looking forward to driving it again, 25 years later!
?Many people now look back at that period with great fondness but there?s many more who will be at Bathurst this year who weren?t even born then, so it?s going to be fun to give the cars a run for them all.?
Network Ten will screen the demonstration laps ?LIVE? as part of their extensive coverage of the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000. Action photography of the laps will also be available on the day.
