The opportunity to race on the same program as Ford Racing?s CART teams is a highlight of the racing year for the Ford V8 teams.
Although these are non-championship races, the V8?s are still set to provide some of the best racing of the year on the narrow Surfers Paradise layout.
The last V8 event similar to the Gold Coast was the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in March, where Paul Radisich of Shell Helix Racing took two wins from three races contested.
Radisich also took two wins from three on the Gold Coast last year.
?Although it?s not a championship race everyone does try very hard to win,? said Radisich.
?These types of races can cause a whole lot of damage if you get mixed up with other drivers ? so I try to avoid that by being at the front.
?The Indy carnival is very exciting and it?s great to showcase our category in front of not only Australian fans but also the international teams from the CART World Series.
?Most of the Ford teams, including ours, are Gold Coast based, so I get to travel from home to race each day; which is a bit different.?
Every team also has to consider the next race at Pukekohe in New Zealand just two weeks after the Gold Coast event.
Teams will be loading their transporters on a ship just days after the completion of the Gold Coast event.
Second place finisher at the recent V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst, Brad Jones of the OzEmail Racing Team, has decided to put two cars in the team transporter.
?Our team is Albury based, so we?ve chosen to take our original race car for the Indy event and our current car will stay in the transporter ready to go straight to New Zealand,? said Jones.
?It?s a luxury having two cars available, and it?s taken a lot of pressure off our guys.
?With this in mind I?m looking forward to having a real go at Indy and continue our recent good form.
The V8?s will practice from Thursday with qualifying and a top-10 shootout on the Friday. Race one and two will be held Saturday afternoon with the final race on the Sunday.
