Ford’s V8 Supercar drivers will snap onto the Darwin scene this Thursday 21 June with a visit to the Darwin Crocodile Farm.

The Blue Oval line-ups schedule takes them to the farm at 1:30pm for the chance to eat ‘Croc Burgers’ and ‘Croc Drumsticks’, followed by a tour of the venue which is home to over 36,000 animals.
A highlight is sure to be the very special feeding session, which will see a toy lion fed to the crocs in anticipation of a jaw-clenching victory on Sunday.
Ford’s best will encounter crocs from a few centimetres in length to hundreds of specimens over five metres long, including ‘Snowy’ the world’s largest Albino crocodile.
Fans are then invited to Hidden Valley Ford to help Craig Lowndes cut his 33rd birthday cake.
Drivers are scheduled for an exclusive 3:30pm visit at the dealership, giving fans the chance to meet their favourites before the on-track excitement begins.
In hot Darwin conditions with 30 degree-plus temperatures predicted, the Blue Oval boys will put their immaculate fitness levels to the test as they fight to win on the 2.9 kilometre circuit.
Lowndes is looking for a repeat result after he stood atop the Hidden Valley podium in 2006. If his birthday wishes are granted “the kid” will be there again.
The Ford Performance Racing (FPR) team were also pacesetters in the Darwin heat last year, taking pole position with Jason Bright behind the wheel.
Bright’s first ever round win was on the circuit in 1999 – he has finished on the podium there four times and scored three pole positions in total. Now driving for his own team Britek Motorsport, Bright is another Ford man to watch this weekend.
2007 FPR drivers Steven Richards and Mark Winterbottom have been showing incredible pace this year and look to benefit from the team’s expertise on the Hidden Valley circuit.
“Darwin is a unique event, there’s an incredible atmosphere,” said Ford Racing Manager, Ray Price.
“It will be the hottest race we’ve seen since Clipsal with outside temperatures in the 30’s. ”
“There’s an advantage in that for us given our drivers are incredibly focused on their fitness to ensure they are at their optimum when dealing with scorching in-car temperatures.
“Many of them simulate heated conditions when they train, as the cabin can reach in excess of 60 degrees. It’s not uncommon to see James Courtney running ten kilometres in the Queensland heat in his full tracksuit.“Combine this driver dedication to optimum performance with the expertise of Ford’s V8 Supercar teams – who have been achieving some fantastic speed and concurrent results – and there’s no doubt we can win this weekend.
“We also have the benefit of marked success at this circuit in the past. A Blue Oval victory is firmly on our agenda.”
In record breaking news, Steven Richards will contest his 132nd round in Darwin, overtaking his father, four-time series Champion and V8 Supercar Hall of Fame inductee Jim Richards.
In additional birthday news, Andrew Jones turns 27 on the Sunday of race weekend.
The boys will hit the track in their Falcon V8 Supercars from June 22 – 24. Friday sees a 50 lap practice session, Saturday is qualifying followed by the first of three 42 lap races – the remaining two sprints take place on Sunday.
