Of the seven spots available for this weekend?s action, Falcon teams claimed six, including the top four positions.
In a cutthroat 15-minute session, all teams had to attack from the outset, with Jones setting a time of 1:33.0200 to lead Glenn Seton (Ford Credit Racing), Neil Crompton (00 Motorsport) and Greg Ritter (Shell Helix Racing).
?Pre-qualifying is never easy, but our team got it together today,? said Jones.
?With the session so short, we needed to be on the money, and that?s where we were.
?I?m not just pleased to get through the session, I?m even more happier with the direction we?re going after a couple of tough races.
?Although I would have preferred not to pre-qualify, we?ve gained a lot from the session. We aim to put those lessons into practice during tomorrow?s qualifying and the opening 13-lap twilight race?.
Only one of Ford?s star drivers missed the cut. 1987 World 500cc champion and Bathurst pole winner, Wayne Gardner, set to miss this weekend?s racing.
?I had a quick lap going but another car went off the track and left gravel on the turn ? which ruined my chances of making the grid,? said Gardner
?I?ve never failed to qualify in any form of motor racing before, so that?s just how tough V8 racing has become in this country.
Tomorrow?s action includes practice, qualifying, top-10 shootout and the opening race. That?s all before Sunday?s twin 150-kilometre races that include compulsory pit stops for tyres.
