Ford Set for Street Fight Fury

Ford has posted a strong qualifying performance with eight cars in the top 15 positions for tomorrow’s first race of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Shell Helix Racing’s Paul Radisich will start from fourth position for the opening 250km race, with Glenn Seton (Ford Tickford Racing) and Marcos Ambrose (Pirtek Racing) together on the third row of the grid.

Radisich was the quickest after qualifying, but cooler conditions and the addition of an extra tyre barrier on the first chicane worked against the Ford Racing star.

“I went into a couple of corners a little too hot, and missed out on the front row,” said Radisich.

“The addition of the tyre barrier on the first chicane made a difference to everyone’s time. Thankfully the barrier will not be on the bend for the races themselves.

“I have a new car this weekend and I’m feeling very comfortable with how it’s performing.

“We have the speed and that should give us a great chance tomorrow.

Drivers are expecting a tough opening race tomorrow, with air temperatures set to climb to the low 30-degree mark.

“This is the hardest race on drivers, and we will get no relief with the hot temperatures, “ said Marcos Ambrose.

“There is also plenty of pressure on the pit crew as we have to make two mandatory pit stops – one for fuel and the other for tyres only.

“Even though it’s a long distance event, it will be flat out all the way.

Earlier in qualifying Paul Weel crashed heavily into a tyre barrier causing major damage to his K & J Radiators.

Weel’s crew will work throughout the night to get Weel to the starting grid for tomorrow’s race.
