Johnson will drive two demonstration laps of Australia?s most famous motor racing circuit at 8:45am Bathurst-time, just over an hour before the start of the 2002 Bob Jane T-Marts 1000.
Ford Australia President Geoff Polites asked Johnson to do the honours in recognition of the Queenslander?s outstanding efforts for Ford over the past 30 years.
?At Ford we are very excited about the new 2003 Falcon and this first racecar is certainly very special,? said Geoff Polites.
?We simply couldn?t go past Dick Johnson as the ideal person to debut the car, and it will give our many supporters both trackside at Bathurst and on television a great chance to see what the future holds.?
Needless to say, Dick Johnson was delighted to get the call and is eagerly looking forward to his laps at Bathurst aboard the 2003 Ford Falcon V8 Supercar.
?I?m thrilled to be asked,? Dick Johnson admitted.
?More importantly, I can?t wait to see the thousands of fans at Bathurst as they rise to their feet to welcome the new car.?
Following the demonstration laps, the 2003 Ford Falcon V8 Supercar will be displayed in the Ford Merchandise Hall in Harris Park. Its next public appearance will then be at the Sydney Motor Show, 18 to 27 October.
Built by Ford with the same engineering expertise used to develop the Falcon road car, the first 2003 V8 Supercar is a developmental platform from which final technical specifications will be made ahead of its first season of competition.
The knowledge gained from this development program will be shared by all Ford teams ahead of the 2003 season.
This is also the first-ever factory-built Ford Falcon V8 Supercar.
Ford?s 2003 Falcon V8 Supercar will debut in a striking paint scheme designed by Ford Design Studio?s Nick Hogios, who was also responsible for the now-famous ?Green-Eyed Monster? 00 Motorsport Falcon Supercar driven by Craig Lowndes.
The 2003 Ford Falcon V8 Supercar will be eligible for competition from the start of next season, with its first race scheduled for the Australian Grand Prix meeting at Albert Park (Melbourne) March 7-9.
Network Ten will screen the demonstration laps ?LIVE? as part of their extensive coverage of the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000. Action photography of the laps will also be available on the day.
