Ford Gets Fit

Ford Australia President Geoff Polites officially opened the gym with the unveiling of an inspirational quote - 'Only the fit are fearless' - painted along the length of the gym wall.
The quote was written by Percy Cerutty, who was an inspirational running coach and motivator made famous for training Herb Elliot to win the 1960 Olympic gold medal in the 1500 metres.
"Percy believed that fitness was essential for success in life as well as sport," said Polites. "We think that an employee should have the opportunity to achieve that fitness as part of their employment."
"This new gym facility will give employees in Head Office access to the gym on their lunch break and before and after work. This facility is a direct response to employee feedback."
The launch was the first opportunity for employees to see the new gym which offers ten pieces of cardio equipment, including treadmills, cross-trainers, a rower and exercise bikes.
It will also feature eight weight resistance machines and free weights and provide employees with a variety of aerobics classes.
Along with the new facility, existing Ford gyms in the Broadmeadows Plant and Geelong operations will receive upgrades.
The new head office gym facility is an extension of Ford's Work Life Balance programme that provides employees with services, practices and facilities to enhance their work life.
Other services and facilities available as part of the programme include good posture practice education, Automatic Teller Machines across all sites, Ford Credit Union and financial information seminars.
