A record sales result for Focus has spearheaded Ford Australia's continued resurgence during May with total vehicle sales of 10,986.

Focus sales rose to 1272 in May, the best sales figure since its introduction to the market last year.

"We are starting to see Focus make its mark in the segment," said Ford Marketing and Sales Vice President Bruce McDonald. "Focus has now been on the market for over six months and customers are beginning to recognise its intrinsic qualities.

"The European styling and excellent driving dynamics are striking a chord with buyers. The arrival of the dynamic ST170 has given the brand even greater appeal."

A total of 6199 Falcons were sold during May, making it the best May sales result since May 1999.

"Falcon continues to be a success with sales 32.4% higher than May 2002, an increase of 1516 units," said Mr McDonald.

The XR range also continues to exceed demand with sales of 1528 units, an astounding 247.3% increase on last year.

"The success of XR is testament to our commitment to providing a range of total performance cars. They are literally being driven off the showroom floor as soon as they arrive."

Falcon Ute recorded another strong result in May, with 1665 sales, continuing its long domination of the market.

"No other ute offers the combination of choices like the Falcon, such as a range of powerful multi-valve six-cylinder or V8 engines, column or floor shift automatics, genuine one-tonne payload and the flexibility of our supercab design," said Mr McDonald.

Ute sales are on track for another record year in 2003, with 7702 Falcon Utes sold by the end of May.
