Ford F-Series - Seriously BIG

Staff, Thursday March 1, 2001.

Size and power are what it’s all about for the F-Series driver and Ford Australia will be able to supply a vehicle to fit an enormous range of heavy-duty applications in mid-2001 with the introduction of both super-duty F250 and F350 trucks.

Ford F-Series - Seriously BIG

“The super-duty F250 and F350 are designed for some pretty serious applications,” says 4WD and Commercial Vehicle Marketing Manager, Kevin Lillie. “The F350 4WD diesel is rated to carry over 2500kg and produces a stump pulling 678Nm of torque. Two pretty impressive numbers if you’ve got a big load to haul.”

The new F250 and F350 have been engineered for the right hand drive market and are factory built in Brazil, not converted from left-hand drive.

An extensive local testing program was undertaken to ensure F250/350 would meet the unique conditions of the Australian market.

The new F-Series will be available in a huge number of models and configurations including single, super and crew cabs. Customers will also have the choice of two and four-wheel variations, a number of manual and auto transmission choices, as well as XL and XLT specification levels.

Standard features across the range include power steering, front disc brakes, LSD, air-conditioning, power mirrors, tinted glass and a 4-tonne hydraulic jack.

XLT sees an enhanced spec level over the XL, including alloy wheels, standard driver and passenger airbags, single driver and passenger seats, cruise control, power windows and remote entry.

Ford F-Series - Seriously BIG

Engines range from a 5.4 litre petrol-powered V8 to a 7.3 litre Intercooled Turbo V8 diesel, and maximum towing capacity is over 4 tonne (at full GVM)

Ford expects many of the super-duty F-Series will find homes in agriculture, mining and service industries with heavy-duty towing and carrying requirements.

Load capacity of the Falcon ute means that Ford has no plans at present to re-introduce the F150, but the availability of the new F250 and F350 will mean that there is now a wider choice than ever of Ford tough vehicles to meet the demands of a specialized vehicle market.

Pricing details will be available at Ford dealers from mid-March.
