Ford Employees will be showing off their own cars today in an effort to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Over 20 vehicles will take pride of place on the lawn outside the Ford Australia Head Office in the Employee Car and Bike Show.

The Ford Employee Car and Bike Show is part of a global Ford initiative to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Ford Australia Graduates are driving the cause in Australia, aiming to raise a record level of funds for JDRF in 2002.

Employees have been invited to enter their 'pride and joy' in the show, or make a gold coin donation to see fellow employees' cars and bikes on display.

Prizes will be awarded for the best car and best bike with special guest Rob Herrod from Herrod Automotive judging the entries. The new BA Falcon and specially modified Ford vehicles from the Herrod workshop will also be on display.

Ford Motor Company has been supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation since 1983 when it hosted a walk fundraiser in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1999 Ford Motor Company established the Global Walk Team for JDRF, with Ford Australia participating for the first time. In its first year, the Ford Motor Company Global Walk Team raised over $US750, 000. In 2000 funds exceeded $US1.4 million.

Ford Australia's 2001 team involved more than 650 employees, family members and friends. Over 500 Ford Australia employees have already registered to walk around Albert Park Lake this weekend to contribute to the 2002 fundraising effort.

In the lead up to the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, Ford Australia graduates have been organising numerous fundraising activities for JDRF. Online auctions of Ford merchandise and prizes such as a Craig Lowndes signed Ford Racing jacket and a framed GT sketch are currently underway. Graduate representatives are also organising various competitions to generate funds.

Many Ford employees demonstrated their support when they wore red to work on Friday, September 13. Employees were encouraged to make a gold coin donation on 'Red Day' to contribute to the JDRF fundraising drive.
