Ford has been confirmed officially as the 2006 Manufacturers’ World Rally Champion in the 2006 FIA World Rally Championship.

The FIA crowned its 2006 World Champions at a Gala Ceremony at the Monaco Sporting Club on December 8, 2006.

Trophies were presented to the winners of the Formula One (F1), World Rally Championship (WRC), World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and all the other FIA championships during the annual FIA event.

Ford was awarded with the 2006 FIA World Rally Championship Manufacturers’ Trophy, which was collected by Ford Team RS Director, Jost Capito, and BP-Ford World Rally Team Principal Malcolm Wilson.

“It’s thrilling and rewarding to see Ford as world champions again,” said Jost Capito, Director Ford Team RS.

“Especially in the first year of competition for the new Ford Focus RS World Rally Car.

“This is only possible because the Focus road car is a superb basis from which to develop performance cars like the highly successful Focus XR5 Turbo and competition cars like the Focus RS World Rally Car”.

The BP-Ford World Rally Team will begin its defence of the Manufacturers’ title at the Rallye Monte Carlo 19-21 January.
