Ford Builds Momentum with Order Book

Staff, Monday May 5, 2003.

Ford's BA Falcon continued its successful run in April, achieving the best Falcon April sales result since 1997 and increasing sales by more than 50% over April 2002.

Falcon sales of 5,468 units included the third best Falcon XR month on record ? 1088 units, an increase of 180.4% (700 units) over the same month in 2002.

Overall Ford sales totalled 9,294 units, an increase of 17.9% versus April 2002.

"As pleased as I am with these sales figures, they don't tell the whole story," said Ford Australia Marketing Vice President, Mr Bruce McDonald.

"With the traditional Easter shutdown period of more than a week, we actually sold more vehicles in April than we built. In addition to this we also ended the month with 420 extra forward orders on top of our usual order bank. That includes five full weeks of ute orders."

Ford's Falcon Ute continued its dominance of its market, selling more than 1500 units to achieve its best April sales result on record.

"Falcon Ute has been a great success for us and despite increased competition it continues to increase its sales and grow the market. With a forward order book stretching out to the end of June, there doesn't seem to be any end in sight to its popularity," said Mr McDonald.

"When you add the great ute sales to a total passenger vehicle sales figure of 6,478 vehicles, which in itself is the best passenger vehicle sales result since April 1999, Ford is definitely heading in the right direction."

"And of course a one, two, three win at Eastern Creek on the weekend just gave us three more reasons to smile!"
