Having won at Winton in both 1995 & ?98, OzEmail Racing?s John Bowe will for the first time go to the rural circuit with the added knowledge provided by extensive testing.
Bowe joined the Albury-based OzEmail team at the start of the year. In doing so he also switched test tracks from Queensland?s Willowbank Raceway to Winton.
Bowe has been enjoying a strong year with the OzEmail squad, qualifying in the shootout four times and just missing a podium result overall at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth.
?Winton is like a homecoming for us, we plan to take full advantage of our knowledge,? said Bowe.
?This team has come a long way since I joined at the start of the year, I have re-signed for another year and it would be good to show my appreciation with a good result at Winton.
?The track is tight and very tricky, with passing very difficult. You can?t afford to start near the back, so making sure you get a good run in qualifying is all important?.
Another driver set to charge at Winton is Pirtek Racing?s Marcos Ambrose. Currently fourth in the championship, Ambrose is aiming to haul-in the 87 point difference between himself and second place driver Jason Bright.
?With 200 points up for grabs, my goal of coming away with second place in the championship is well within reach at Winton,? said Ambrose.
?The best way to close the gap in the championship is to go for victory.
?Last year was my first visit to Winton in any form of racing and I was able to take fifth overall after starting 18th.
?After grabbing pole and finishing third overall at the recent round at Oran Park in Sydney, I go to Winton very confident of breaking through for Ford?s first overall win of the year?.
Situated just outside Benalla on the Hume Freeway two hours north of Melbourne, Winton Motor Raceway attracted a crowd of just under 35,000 in 2001, making it one of the biggest regional-based sporting events anywhere in Australia.
Winton will feature two 100-kilometre races, including compulsory tyre stops in as well as a top-10 shootout on the Saturday.
Winton will be the final race for teams before the two endurance events of the year, the VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500 and Australia?s premier motor race, the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 at Bathurst.
Ford Racing Australia will have the majority of its endurance line-up at Winton for media opportunities on the Sunday.
