Sleek styling, sophisticated road manners and an innovative interior design have established Focus as the world?s best selling passenger car, with more than 2 million sales since its launch in 1998.
Speaking at the launch of the Focus in Australia, Ford Australia President Geoff Polites attributed the car?s success to a unique combination of style and substance.
?The car?s innovative design means there?s no need to sacrifice space and practicality for style and performance,? Mr Polites said.
?Focus offers an invigorating driving experience. Its unique Control Blade rear suspension set-up provides impeccable road handling and control, without compromising driver comfort,? Mr Polites said.
Focus? fully independent suspension set-up is complemented by a comprehensive range of active safety features including anti-lock brakes1, airbags and Ford?s VDC AdvanceTrac stability system2.
Distinctive styling
The distinctive lines of the Focus are guaranteed to turns head, with styling cues that reflect its superior driving dynamics.
The car?s unique shape is the result of an extensive wind tunnel development program that has delivered excellent aerodynamics and efficient fuel consumption.
Mr Polites said the Focus? clever interior design had won it many friends.
?The designers have created an elevated roofline and pushed the wheels to the corners of the chassis to create more headroom and legroom.
?They also raised the seating position to provide a better view for the passengers and a commanding view of the road ahead for the driver. And the attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship are everything you would expect from a European Car of the Year,? he said.
The Focus range has received more than 50 awards since its launch? a strong testament to the car?s breakthrough design and quality engineering.
?Since its launch Focus has established an enviable reputation for quality, durability and driving dynamics.
?It was recently named the most reliable car in a study of 107 different models by Germany?s TÜV, an industry body that controls and approves quality standards for industrial and consumer products,? he said.
The Focus design has also proved itself a winner in the hotbed of the World Rally Championship, where it recently won the tortuous Safari Rally.
The Focus will be sold in a range of three-, four- and five-door variants, from the entry level 1.8 litre CL to the sporty two-litre ST170 ? due for release in 2003.
Prices for the Focus range will be released shortly.
